Getting around in Vienna

  • If you arrive by air to Vienna airport, we recommend that you take the regular light rail public transport, and save money on the expensive "CAT" CityAirportTrain. You can buy a ticket at the platform at the "ÖBB" ticket vending machines.
  • If your accommodation is located such that you will regularly need public transport, we recommend that you buy a 7-day ticket from Wiener Linien for EUR 17.10 (single tickets for individual journeys cost EUR 2.40). This ticket, or a weekly ticket, should also sell on vending machines - do make sure to select the correct starting date!
  • A 7 day ticket will also get you to our Donauinsel socialising location on the Friday, and it complements your airport ticket (i.e. you then only need to pay a smaller surcharge from the airport to the city border).
  • The best connected public transport stop near the University is "Schottentor".
  • Public transport information on google maps is fairly reliable. You can also download the app "WienMobil" or "OEBB Scotty", which have the most up to date information.
